Blocked polyisocyanates for can coating improve adhesion, flexibility and resistance properties

Blocked polyisocyanates are used as crosslinkers for OH-functional polyesters and may be combined with futher binders, e.g. phenolic resins, melamine resins, benzoguanamine resins, epoxy resins. 1K-PUR stoving systems formulated in such manner are characterized by a good metal adhesion, an excellent balance between hardness and flexibility as well as an outstanding resistance to sterilization and chemicals. They are preferred for applications requiring extremely good shaping properties (suitability for deep drawing) and resistance properties.

Bayer MaterialScience offers a comprehensive range of raw materials for one-component stoving systems as well as corresponding starting formulations for interior coatings, base coats and clear coats.

An absolut highlight is Desmodur® VP LS 2078/2. With this crosslinker Bayer MaterialScience offers a new "building block" for the production of can coatings with food contact. The product is in compliance with the currently valid EU Food Legislation EC Directive 2002/72/EC. Furthermore the US Food and Drug Administration has granted a Food Contact Notification (FCN No. 695) allowing for the product to be used for the production of coatings with food cntact. Therefore, Desmodur® VP LS 2078/2 is the only blocked polyisocyanate worldwide which may be used in the EU, the US and all countries following these regulations for can coatings with food contact.
