Feature: New UV-curing coating materials for high-quality electronic devices
Mobile phones, MP3 players and laptop housings should retain a clean and gleaming look for a long time. Unfortunately, sticky, wet or greasy hands often stain the finish of these products after a short time. Now, however, experts at Bayer MaterialScience have developed new radiation-curing polyurethane dispersions for coatings that can keep these products looking like new for much longer. Beyond the improved and longer lasting finish to hand-held devices, the new coatings are free of solvents and are extremely efficient to apply.
Bayhydrol® UV 2689/1 XP represents a breakthrough with regard to the resistance properties of waterborne products. The extremely highly crosslinked molecular structures created through curing by UV radiation result in an outstanding resistance to hydrolysis and cosmetics. Suitably formulated coatings are not only hard, they are also scratch and abrasion-resistant.
With Bayhydrol® UV XP 2736, coatings can be formulated for application to plastic film, fabric and other flexible substrates, where they show excellent adhesion and mechanical resistance.
