Sunshine, water and heat are still a challenge for polymeric coating systems. But polyurethane systems formulated with high-quality building blocks such as Desmophen® C polycarbonate diols display the hydrolytic stability, lightfastness, weatherability and chemical resistance to master these challenges.
Clear technical advantages The linear, hydroxyl-terminated, aliphatic polycarbonate diols marketed under the Desmophen® C trade name uniquely combine the advantages of hydrolytic stability and resistance to oxidative degradation with intrinsic flexibility. In combination with polyisocyanates they form a high-quality building block in the formulation of polyurethane compounds such as prepolymers, polyurethane-dispersions or resins, e.g. thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), Where conventional polyols face limitations, Desmophen® C polycarbonate diols offer a new degree of flexibility.
Polycarbonate Diols feature an improved resistance to hydrolysis
A selection of possible applications for polycarbonate diols:
Building block for TPU or TPE:
Better weatherability and longer term performance compared than polyester
Building block for dispersions
Improved hydrolytic stability and abrasion resistance
Building block for dispersions
Improved hydrolytic stability and haptics, especially softfeel properties
Formulation building block for 2K PU
Weatherability and self-healing clear coats, specific construction applications
Building block for prepolymers
Combination of polyether and polyester performance for a better polyester
Comprehensive product portfolio
The Desmophen® C product portfolio offers a wide range of building blocks for formulating high-performance polyurethanes:
Besides the benefits detailed above, two new Desmophen® C grades, 3100 XP and 3200 XP, offer the additional advantages of easy handling since they are viscous liquids at room temperatures and of good compatibility with solvents and other polyols.
